Chocolate Week: Films

The end of Chocolate Week is nigh. If you're not lucky enough to be able to go to the grand finale that is the Salon du Chocolat in London, it seems, on yet another grey and wet day, that a happy alternative is to hunker down inside and watch a film or two. Here are some suggestions for some chocolate-themed entertainment:

Chocolat - an obvious choice but a sensible place to start. Drool over the chocolate window displays, cream-dolloped hot chocolate and birthday banquet scene.

Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory - again an obvious choice, but I feel the right one. Much preferred over the Tim Burton/Johnny Depp effort, with old-school charm and great songs.

Sideways - What goes better with chocolate than wine..? This Oscar-winning film about a cynical teacher/writer and his about-to-be-married friend on a "wine road trip" is one of my favourites.

Matilda - Nice wee film, and another based on a Roald Dahl classic. Included here for its infamous scene where the character Bruce Bogtrotter is forced to eat an entire chocolate cake for stealing from the kitchen. I'm sure there are worse punishments.

The Help - Kind of related to the above. Octavia Spencer won an Oscar for her part in the film (based on the very good book of the same name) in which she bakes a chocolate pie with a not-so-special ingredient.
Will probably give the recipe a miss...
