Wild Goose Chase

While there is something unnervingly primeval about birds - the beady eyes, the sharp beaks and staccato head-bobbing - there is no denying a flock of them swirling together against an azure sky makes them a little more appealing. The gabbling geese I photographed today during a stunning afternoon drive were certainly worth stopping for. Presumably they were making a pit stop during migration or perhaps they were sheltering from the so-called storms down south, taking solace in the golden fields and Turner-esque Caithness skies. On a day like today, it's easy to see why they might...
